Who We Serve: Individuals

Many people want to participate in the Green Economy, but don’t know where to begin. They may be overwhelmed with information, intimidated by the number of options or lack the resources to take the next step.  As one of the region’s most trusted guides, Delta Institute helps individuals living and working in the Great Lakes region find credible, realistic and affordable ways to green their lives and be part of the transformation to the Green Economy.

Delta helps individuals:

•    Reduce Environmental Impacts:  Delta helps individuals reduce the environmental impact of their everyday activities. These include reducing energy use and carbon emissions by offering low-income homeowners weatherization assistance; helping individuals divert waste from landfills through deconstruction rather than demolition and incorporating used building materials into renovation and building projects;  helping individuals measure their carbon footprints and offset emissions with high-quality local carbon offsets; and promoting local, sustainable food systems by developing urban agriculture projects on brownfield sites.

•    Gain from Green Practices: Delta is providing opportunities for small- and medium-sized farmers, agricultural operations, and forest managers to fight global warming and earn and sell carbon credits by adopting conservation practices on hundreds of thousands of acres, thereby creating incentives for environmental and conservation activities related to climate change.

•    Access Funding and Financing:  Delta helps individuals take advantage of a variety of incentives for energy efficiency and renewable energy, deconstruction and reuse, alternative fuel vehicles and other evolving opportunities in the Green Economy.

•    Explore Green Jobs and Careers:  By leading the transformation to the green economy, Delta is helping create green collar jobs and promoting high-skilled sustainability careers. Our training and education programs offer pathways for individuals to train for new fields and sharpen their skills for developing and leading green enterprises. •    Contribute to the Green Economy:  Individuals can contribute to the Green Economy simply by getting involved with Delta. Serving on one of our boards and committees, participating in an educational workshop or outreach event or making a donation can make a big difference.
