Whether the word applies to our economy or the environment, “change” seems to inspire just about everybody. It inspired us ten years ago when we first began our work, and continues to inspire us today. After all, “Delta” means change.
We recently set goals for the year 2020 to do our part to change the Great Lakes Region into a critical hub in the emerging green economy. These include:
- Raising $250 million for pollution prevention, remediation and reuse
- Greening 300 buildings with green ratings
- Removing 12 million tons of carbon from the atmosphere
- Creating 50 models of green economic development
Goals like these might cause John Lennon himself to call us dreamers -- but they are realistic projections based upon our past ten years’ of accomplishments. These goals reflect our time-honored capabilities as much as our lofty ambitions.
Like we have for the past decade, we won’t count on familiar paths to get us to our destination. We know where we want to go, and we will blaze our own trails to get there. These goals, appropriately, have been called our Trailblazer Goals. You’ll be hearing more about them over the months to come.
We’re also making a few internal changes. Most notably, Tim Brown has stepped down from his position as co-director, but continues to serve us as an active board member and consultant. His innovative leadership continues with us uninterrupted, while many veteran staff have stepped up to manage portions of his work.
We are committed and excited to keep making changes toward a vibrant green economy in the region. But before I say the word an eighth time, we’ll let our actions take it from here!
