Driving environmental awareness in transportation planning

 In 2008, the Delta Institute began the Transportation and Environmental Collaboration Initiative (TECI) working with the Sustainability Team of Chicago Wilderness. At the time, environmental stakeholders knew little about the transportation planning process, and transportation professionals had limited and inconsistent access to local environmental resources. Delta and the Sustainability Team developed a work plan to build capacity on both sides by identifying existing tools, hosting forums, and providing technical assistance. They also created consensus-driven natural resource prioritization maps.

Solid advances in Cook County waste plan

On Tuesday, April 3, 2012, the Cook County Board approved the first Solid Waste Management Plan for suburban Cook County since 2000. In late 2010, Delta Institute  was enlisted by Cook County to make recommendations about the most effective ways to reduce waste and improve diversion rates in our region, Delta staff worked with Cook County to develop the plan and engage stakeholders in discussing the most pressing waste issues facing our communities.
 
Unlike previous plans, the new plan proposes radical changes to the traditional methods of managing solid waste and moves Cook County toward an aspirational goal of 100% diversion of solid waste from landfills.

Delta's Elise Zelechowski wins Chicago Magazine Green Award

Long-Awaited Green Meeting Standards Make Their Debut

A collection of eight new ASTM International standards will provide meeting and event planners and their suppliers with specific guidelines and performance measurements for creating environmentally sustainable or “green” events. The standards have been in development since 2007, when Subcommittee E60.02 on Hospitality, part of ASTM International Committee E60 on Sustainability, partnered with the Convention Industry Council through its Accepted Practices Exchange (APEX) initiative to address the tremendous need for uniform standards that measure environmental performance in the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry.

Standard Register Featured in CDP 2012 Supply Chain Report

Delta's client, Standard Register Corporation, was featured in the just-released 2012 Carbon Disclosure Project Supply Chain Report. The annual publication highlights businesses for their efforts to measure and manage carbon emissions in their supply chain.  In 2011, Delta helped Standard Register earn a CDP score of 91 out of 100, qualifying it as in the top 5% of reporting companies.
