New Program Aims to Help Homeowners Get "Little Bills" for Energy

12.05.2011

Delta is partnering with Energy Impact Illinois to provide low-interest loans to help area residents make energy-saving improvements to their homes. The program is an innovative way to reduce the barrier for investing in energy conservation measures, with the goal of helping reduce overall energy usage and saving money for individuals, businesses governmental units and nonprofits.

Energy Impact Illinois was developed by the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) under a $25 million dollar grant from Department of Energy. Delta’s role is to help homeowners obtain loans for making improvements either through a whole-home approach using an energy audit or through single improvements , such as furnaces and boilers. Loans will fund energy efficiency retrofits that achieve better than 15% reductions in energy use in a home.

Current lenders include Greenchoice Bank, MembersAlliance Credit Union in Rockford, and North Side Community Federal Credit Union.  Energy Impact Illinois is anticipating that at least six lenders will be added in the coming months and is also partnering with utility programs to double-up loans with eligible energy efficiency rebates, further enhancing savings and enabling program growthInformation about the program is available at http://energyimpactillinois.org/residential/direct-me-to-financial-resources.
