Loop Islands
Former tannery and 47 acre wetlands along the Ohio River. The vision is to create a nature preserve area for urban/local use, migratory bird habitat, and passive recreation. The tannery to be converted into residential condominiums by a private developer. The Ohio River Greenway will bisect the wetlands area and provide a connection onto a 7.1 mile trail along the Ohio River. Great opportunity to integrate sustainable redevelopment with natural resource protection.
Peddler's Mall
Classic example underutilized medium box store with excessive amounts of asphalt parking. Set back from the street, with little pedestrian access, but neighborhoods abutting the site. Excellent opportunity for a holistic approach to sustainable redevelopment, including the site and surrounding community. This property will be part of 2008 road renovations and the community is interested in making Eastern Blvd a more pedestrian friendly place.
Rhodia
A 17 acre site that functioned as a chemical plant from 1919 to 1998. This site is located within the heart of the old industrial core next to a public housing complex. Plans call for the site to serve as a catalyst for the revitalization of the 2,100 acre Park Hill corridor and provide family-supporting jobs for residents of nearby neighborhoods. Opportunity to design industrial uses that are beneficial to the residents nearby and consider social and public health improvements.
