Our Services

Sustainable purchasing is one way that the Delta Institute works toward its mission of transforming the Great Lakes region into a vital center of the emerging green economy. Sustainable purchasing is an innovative approach to purchasing products and services that reflect fiscal responsibility, social equity, and community and environmental stewardship. Also known as green or responsible purchasing, sustainable purchasing promotes products and services that are made and used in such a way as to reduce toxics, increase efficiency, and reduce waste.

Over the past three years, Delta has collaborated with private companies and public agencies to understand and green their purchasing profiles. We understand that purchasing and supply chain management are inextricably linked to all facility operations and we take those connections into account as we work with purchasing professionals. Many of our projects have linked purchasing with other organizational initiatives such as USGBC’s LEED, sustainability planning, or energy efficiency.

We help companies, municipalities, and organizations to develop and implement sustainable purchasing programs by providing the following services:

  • strategic planning
  • policy development and implementation
  • research and technical assistance
  • training
  • measurement and verification
  • consortium or group purchasing opportunities
